For the past thirty-five years Frank Wolden has been developing and executing his ideas on the “design of cities”. Educated in fine art and architecture, Frank started his career as a city planner tasked with the challenge of creating a vision for downtown San Diego for the newly formed Center City Development Corporation. With Horton Plaza and the Gaslamp Quarter as the center piece, his vision included mixed use housing and commercial development, built along a network of pedestrian oriented streets, plazas and parks, extending a new urban experience south and west to San Diego Bay.

In the early 1980’s Frank joined the Jerde Partnership as a member of an elite team charged with designing and executing Horton Plaza as a catalyst for the larger center city vision. After the opening of Horton Plaza in 1986 Frank formed the firm City Design to focus on large scale architecture and design projects with an emphasis on the emerging art of “urban experience”.

Through the years that followed Frank brought his philosophy and work to projects around the globe representing a number of firms including Carrier Johnson + Culture and Skyport Studio (a firm he founded in 2012), that merged with AVRP Studios in 2015 to become AVRP Skyport.

As Principal of AVRP Skyport Frank, working with his longtime collaborator Barbara Jetzer and other members of his Skyport Studio team, leads a special projects studio focused on applying his philosophy on the “Art of City Design” to projects that "make a difference in the world of human experience."
