Maximizing views from every room was a key design directive. In addition, the design focuses on blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living. Composed of long, horizontal planes to minimize heat gain from the floor to ceiling glass, the rectangular volumes are contrasted with vertical stone elements to anchor the house. These vertical stone elements become the internal focus of the home around fireplaces and connecting stairs.
On the homes’ lower level, which contains the kitchen, family, and living spaces, there are a series of retracting window walls open to a large terrace. The connection to the outdoors continues on the upper sleeping levels with retractable glass opening to a large terrace on the second level. The primary suite sits alone on the third level to create a more intimate setting with a private terrace and ocean views.
